Care & Repair in Powys can provide you with free advice, information and support to enable you to continue to live independently in your home in safety and comfort.

Often this will be through a personal visit by one of our experienced Caseworkers to your home. We will listen to your needs and suggest a package of information and repair or adaptation.

The welfare rights aspect of the agency’s work is very important. The agency can assist you in maximizing your income with a free Benefit Check. Our Caseworkers have successfully made claims on behalf of individuals for benefits such as pension credit, attendance allowance, housing benefit and council tax benefit.

Care & Repair in Powys can advise on welfare benefits only for individuals receiving other housing advice or assistance from the agency.

We hold the Advice Quality Standard, which provides you with assurance that we have met certain criteria that demonstrate a commitment to quality.

If Care & Repair in Powys is able to help then we will:

  • Help you obtain quotes from reliable builders to enable you to carry out repairs and small adaptations to your property and help you deal with the administration of the work.
  • Refer on to our Technical Service or an Occupational Therapist for larger works and adaptations.
  • Advise and help to make applications to other sources of funding, whenever possible, including local authority grants and benevolent funding.
  • Give confidential advice about welfare benefits to ensure you are getting your full entitlement and assist you to complete application forms.

There is no obligation to accept the advice offered; all decisions about the work and your finances ultimately rest with you.

Fire Safety

Care & Repair in Powys also offer free Home Fire Safety Checks in partnership with Mid & West Wales Fire Service. Our staff can advise on fire risks and help make an escape plan in case of fire. Free smoke detectors can be fitted by our Caseworkers or Minor Adaptation Officers if required.
